OVERVIEW
1. Some people make a big deal out of the fact that there are many successful business founded by
entrepreneurs who do not have a college degree. Often cited are apple founded Steve Jobs, Microsoft
founder Bill gates, Facebook co founder Mark Zuckerberg, in Philippines we have Philippines Airlines
and Asia brewery owner Lucio Tan, Mang Inasal founder Edgar Sia II. These individuals went to
college but decided to drop out after spotting a business opportunity. The others came from poor
families, and not afford college education, but succeeded in growing their businesses.
2. However, we must not lose sight of the fact that other equally successful businesses were founded by
individuals who earned their college degrees. Example ae Jollibeee founder Tony Tan Caktiong,
Lamoiyan Corporation founder Cecilio Pedro, and ECHOstore co- Pacita Juan.
3. In this module, we identify the different types of entrepreneurs. We also describe the various stages
that entrepreneurs undergo in implementing their business plans.
DEFINE:
ENTREPRENEUR AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Common Definition:
• Entrepreneur – a business person
• Entrepreneurship – the business
ENTREPRENEUR

Originates from the French word


“ENTREPRENDRE” which means “to undertake”.
Business framework which signifies the start of a new business undertaking.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP
An art of observing correct practices in managing and operating a self-owned
wealth-creating business enterprise by providing goods and services that are
valuable to the customers.

TYPES OF ENTREPRENEUR

1. Mega entrepreneurs- Individuals who are willing too


absorb huge risks of using enormous amount of capital in
their business ventures.
2. Microentrepreneurs- Individuals who are engaged in micro
or small businesses as an alternative formal employment.
The world of entrepreneurship these days has already evolved, and new
terms are coined to suit an entrepreneurs, field of expertise.

• Technopreneur- An entrepreneur puts technology at the core of his or her


business model. Revolutionizes the prevailing economic order by making
the best use of technology at hand. They introduce new concept of product
and services in the market.
