INTRODUCTION
• library management system is a project that manages and stores books
information electronically according to students needs.

• The system helps both students and library manager to keep a constant track
of all the books available in the library

• It becomes necessary for colleges to keep a continuous check on the books

issued and returned and even calculate fine.

• Thus this system reduces manual work to a great extent allows smooth flow
of library activities by removing chances of errors in the details.

NEED / MOTIVATION
• A library management system enhances the efficiency of both the librarians and the
library users

• With a library management system, you can easily eliminate the no of employees or
staffs and keep different manual files without using papers, thereby reducing the cost.

• Time is precious for both the librarians and the users. By an integrated library
management system, a librarian can easily record and go through the history of
individual library users without wasting the time

• Self-updating records with an automated library management system give rise to

dynamic reporting and oversight capabilities.

PROBLEM DEFINITION
• In our existing system all the activities are done manually, So taking more
time for a simple task like borrowing a book or returning a book and also
for searching of members and books.

• Another major disadvantage is that to preparing the list of books

borrowed and the available books in the library will take more time,
currently it will consume as much as a day’s time for verifying all records.

• So after conducting the feasibility study we decided to make the manual
Library Management System to be computerized. Proposed system is an
automated Library Management System.

• Through our software user can add members, add books, search
members, search books, update information, edit information, borrow
and return books in quick time

EXISTING V/S PROPOSED METHODOLOGY
• Existing system does not have any facility of classifying people our system has a
login/signup system which classifies people into different groups

• Existing system does not have any facility for real time information whereas
proposed have real time data for the inventory with the help of pie chart

• Existing system can be error prone and tedious while proposed system is all
computerized so no issue with petty errors.

• Existing system does not have any facility to generate student reports as well book
issue reports whereas proposed system provides librarian with a tool to generate
reports

CONCLUSION
• The project Is designed with java swing as front end and MySQL as the backend
supporting it .by taking up this project we are able to test our object orientation
concepts of java and understand the gui platform that the language offers.

• It was able to run the database functions with ease and has easy to understand
and functional gui interface.

• There is a future scope in this project ,as the structure ,functions and coding of the
project is structured. We can add functions according to client demands in future .
