likely that you will end up with a
coherent argument.
OUTLINE

Not only organized thought but make you


aware of certain relationships between topics.
WHY OUTLINE?
help construct and organize ideas in a sequential manner
and thoughtful flow. Doing so allows you to pick relevant
information or quotes from sources early on, giving writers
steady foundation and groundwork when beginning the
writing process.
TONE

Formal tone is used. Do not use slang words,


jargon, abbreviation or many clichés.
IMPORTANCE OF TONE?
In literary terms, tone typically refers to the MOOD
IMPLIED by an author's word choice and the way
that the text can make a reader feel. The tone an
author uses in a piece of writing can EVOKE ANY
NUMBER OF EMOTIONS AND PERSPECTIVES.
LANGUAGE
Needs to be clear and words need to be chosen
for their precision.
Thesaurus is a good tool
WHY CONSIDER LANGUAGE?
it is very important to use language that FITS
YOUR AUDIENCE AND MATCHES
PURPOSE. Inappropriate language uses can
damage your credibility, undermine your
argument, or alienate your audience.

It's important to use a consistent point of view


throughout an essay to give your essay focus
and clarity. It also helps to show the purpose of
your essay.
Is it OK to use first person in academic writing?
APA prefers that writers use the first person for clarity
and self-reference. To promote clear communication, writers
should use the first person, rather than passive voice or the
third person, to indicate the action the writer is taking.

Deductive reasoning is a big part of academic


writing as your readers have to follow the path
that brought you to your conclusion.
