Why author create a write up or a piece. It is


the soul of the piece. The topic usually define
the purpose

1. TO INFORM

To give information about a subject. Wish to


provide facts or teach something to readers

2. TO ENTERTAIN

To amuse and delight; to appeal to the reader’s


sense of imagination. Captivate or interest the
audience.

3. TO PERSUADE

To convince the reader to agree with author’s


point of view on subject. May give facts, but the
main goal is to argue or prove a point to reader.

  Tone of a written piece can


be friendly, authoritative, formal,
casual, warm, rude, positive,
sarcastic, or cheerful, to name a few.

 ACADEMIC TONE usually define it as


writing that does not use “I” “Me” “Myself”
or “You.”
THE AUTHOR’S POINT
OF VIEW
 in academic writing authors Point of View (POV)
refers to his or her position on an issue or, in
other words, the author's opinion or belief
regarding an issue.
When authors favor one side of an issue, they are said to
have a bias in favor of that side of the issue. Authors may
be unbiased (neutral or objective).
