VAPOR PRESSURE
DEPRESSION
The characteristic vapor pressure is that
all pure liquids are in equilibrium with the
liquid phase, whose partial pressure
depends on temperature as long as the
solvent itself does not have a significant
vapor pressure. Is rationalized by
presuming surface in place of solvent
particles, so not many solvent particles
can evaporate.

Such slowest are referred to as NON-

VOLATILE.
The solution, however, has a
lower vapor pressure than the
pure solvent does the amount
of this lowering depends on the
fraction of solute particles.
This colligative property is
called vapor pressure
depression (or Lowering) the
actual vapor pressure given to
this cooperative feature.

A liquid's boiling point rises when
another compound is added, hence a
solution has a higher boiling point
than a pure solvent. This increases a
pure solvent, like water, is combined
with a non-volatile solute, like salt.
The temperature of the solution is
different from that of the pure
solvent because it contains non-
volatile substances, which causes
the temperature to decrease. but in
contrast to the pure solvent, it has a
greater boiling point.
Given their relative concentrations, the
pure solvent has a higher vapor pressure
than solution.
