Description of Flat-Plate Collectors

1) A transparent cover - one or more sheets of glass or radiation transmitting plastic film or sheet.

2) Tubes, fins, passages or channels- integral with or connected to the absorber plate & conduct the working fluid through the colle

3) The absorber plate- normally metallic or with a black surface Recommended

4) Insulation - provided at the back & sides to minimize heat losses

5) The casing or enclosure - encloses the other components & protects them from the weather.

Plate
Selection Of Materials For Flat Plate
Collectors
1) Absorber plate:
High absorbtivity
High thermal conductivity
Adequate tensile & compressive strength
Recommer
Solar COLLECTORS
Good corrosion resistance
Less specific heat
Easily workable
Easy to handle
Low cost
Eg. Copper, Aluminium, Steel.

2) Cover plate:
> Minimize convection loss
> Minimize radiation loss
> Good strength, durability
> Non-degradability
> Efficient solar energy transmission
> Rigidity
Resistant to thermal shock
Eg. Tempered glass (Tempering puts the outer surfaces into compression and the inner surfaces into tension.)
Recommended

1) Aluminium casing - noble design in black
2) Vacuum tube pipes with absorber - 58mm thick
vacuum tube pipes with high selective coating AL-
N/AL absorber and double-shell safety glass
3) U-pipes - copper U-pipes inside the tubes
4) CPC reflector highly polished CPC reflector for
perfect focal point
5) Copper collector pipes - every U-pipe is
connected to the Tichelmann principle for a
regular flow
6) Thermal insulation compressed rock wool
insulation
7) Additional return flow pipe integreted allows a
connection on one side of a collector row
