 Area and Procurement
• India has a long tradition of Floriculture References to
flower and Gardens are found in ancient Sanskrit classics
like the Rigveda , Ramayan, Mahabharta etc.
• In spite of the long and close association with Floriculture
the records of commercial activity in the field are very few.
• The information on the area under floriculture and the
Production Generated is highly inadequate.
• The estimated are under Flower Growing in the country is
about 65,000 ha.

• The production of flowers is estimated to be near 300000
metric tonnes of loose flowers and over 500 million cut flower
with stem.
• Rose is the principal cut flower grown all over the country.
• In recent times with production for export gaining ground in
the country , The latest varieties like
• First red, Grand gala, konifitti, Ravel, sacha etc. Are also being
grown commercial.

ANALYSIS
• Rose is the most preferred flower in the international market.
• India has high potential for export of cut flowers.
• In the present study, tabular analysis percent share of different
countries in production, export and import of cut roses were
calculated.
• Compound growth rates in area and production of cut roses in
India and percent share of different countries in import of
Indian roses were calculated.
• it is revealed that India ranked first in area and production.

• And production of cut roses and exporting only 0.20 to 0.40
percent of global export trade.
• India ranked 15th in the export of cut roses by contributing 0.20
percent cut roses export in the world.
• India is the exporting cut roses to the more than 55 country.
• United kingdom ranked first in cut roses import from India and
account 28.74 percent in total cut roses export from India.
• Followed to Uk ,Singapore (22.17%) , Malaysia (21.25%) and
New Zealand (9.29%) .

 What are the Documents Required for
APEDA Registration in India?
• Duly signed APEDA application form
• Copy of Import-Export code issued by D.G.F.T.
• Bank details and certification duly signed by the authorities.
• Bank A/c. statement of the account of the firm (for latest 2
months)
• Canceled cheque.
• In case of a company, certified copy of MOA, In case of
partnership firm, partnership deed is required.

 Quality Testing
• Flowers of high quality have a shine on them which brighten
the room Or the place where they are kept.
• Petals that are dull, spotted or drooping can easily be marked
and noticed.
• Flowers that have lustrous stems, petals and leaves are the best
in terms of quality and last longer
• Roses are valued for their rich and varied colors, profusion of
Bloom, velvety petal texture and in many cultivars a rich sweet
scent.
• For the export look for healthy, Robust leaves that are free of

disease and insects
 Warehouse - storage
• Normal refrigeration (NR)
• Low pressure (LP, 10 to 35 mm hg)
• Low oxygen (0.5 % to 8%) storage trails were conducted
using cut flower of roses
• Roses could be stored up to 2 weeks under NR and up to 4
weeks under LP conditions and still exhibit at least 61 .

 Packaging
1) Harvesting:
Cut flowers are selected and taken in process plant
2) Pre-cooling:
Cut flowers are stored in precooling room for temperature about 5 degree
Celsius.
3) De-leafing:
Excess leaves on rose flower stem are cut as per the stem length
requirement.
4) Grading:
Cut rose flowers are selected as per the required quality.
5) Sorting: 18
Roses are sorted according to the stem length, bud size .

6) Bunching:
Cut flowers are bunched according to the requirement of the customer.
7) Stem cutting:
Bunch of cut rose flower is measured on scale for it’s stem length and required size is
cut.
8) Post cooling:
Cut flower bunches are kept in cold room at about 2-3 degree Celsius before the
packing.
9) Packing:
Variety of various cut rose flowers are taken and packed in the corrugated box as per
customer required size.
10) Dispatch:
Packed flowers are loaded in the refrigerated van at about 3-4 degree Celsius and
transported to the airport. 20

• Modern Pack houses:
Estimated Manpower requirement for 25 MT Pack-house: 60 (48 unskilled, 6
semiskilled, 6 skilled)
• Cold-Storage of 100 MT capacity:
Total: 4no’s (Record keeper-1, Technicians-1 and Helpers-2)
• Reefer Trucks:
3 no’s (2 Drivers and 01 Helper) per truck
• Spare Truck:
01 no (1 Driver and 01 Helper), Total Manpower required: 7 drivers and 4 Helpers

 Subsidy / Bank loan :
• SUBSIDY SCHEME FOR EXPORT OF AGRICULTURE COMMODITIES BY SEA ROUTE
• Transport Subsidy of Rs. 50,000/- for export of agriculture commodities by sea route container to newly
opened countries.
• In order to boost the export of agriculture commodities grown in Maharashtra state, a proposal was under
consideration of Maharashtra State Agriculture Marketing Board for financial assistance to Cooperative
Society, Farmer Producer Group/ Company, Firm, Exporter, Farmer for direct export of fruits and vegetables
(excluding grapes), if it is exported through sea route through container. Therefore a Transport Assistance
Scheme has been launched. It has decided to reserve a fund of Rs. One Crore for the scheme
• The Cooperative Society, Farmer Producer Group/ Company, Firm, Exporter, Farmer who will export
designated agriculture commodity to the destinations mentioned. They will be eligible for getting Rs.
50,000/- per container (20 feet/40 feet) as subsidy. The maximum subsidy per beneficiary will be Rs. 1 Lakh
per year.
