 Do not start first aid for burns before you ensure your
own safety

 Do not apply ice because it deepens the injury.

 Do not apply any topical medications locally: (creams,


lotions, powders, grease, calamine lotion, toothpastes,
butter, colouring and other sticky agents, etc., )

 Do not break open small blisters with clear fluid

• Stop the burning- remove the victim from the source of the
burn.

• Cool the burned area with cool, running water for 10-20
minutes

• Remove clothing and jewelry

• Use sheets or towels soaked in water to cool a burn on the


face or other areas that cannot be soaked
