UNEQUALLY
YOKED
Even when the world says so…
 What is a yoke?
• A yoke is a wooden bar that joins two oxen to
each other and to the burden they pull. An
“unequally yoked” team has one stronger ox and
one weaker, or one taller and one shorter. The
weaker or shorter ox would walk more slowly
than the taller, stronger one, causing the load to
go around in circles. When oxen are unequally
yoked, they cannot perform the task set before
them. Instead of working together, they are at
odds with one another.
 The world says it’s okay to be unequally
yoked…
• But, have you ever seen the situation of the families who were unequally
yoked?
• Can you describe their relationship?
 The dangers of being unequally yoked:
• 1. God CANNOT get glory in a relationship that excludes Him.
• Our life’s purpose is to glorify God. We are created for God’s glory.
• Isaiah 43:7 everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my
glory, whom I formed and made.”
• Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, unless they agreed?
 The dangers of being unequally yoked:
• 2. They can pull you out of the will of God!
• “pwede man nako siya ma-influence…” but more often, you will be influenced to go out of
God’s will.
• More often than not, it is the believer who finds himself pressured to leave his Christian
principles behind for the sake of his/her partner.
• Remember, only God can SAVE a person and not you.
• 1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”
• Proverbs 13:20 He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be
destroyed.
• A PERSON’S RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD IS HIS/HER
RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU
• THEY MAY BE DOING THINGS FOR YOU, NOT FOR JESUS.
• RUTH 1:16
• But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you.
Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people shall
be my people and your God my God.
• 3. Agree on a solid biblical principles
in order to avoid confusion.
• They may be fine with you now but IT WILL
NOT WORK OUT LATER.
• 2 different principles: saved by works vs. saved
by grace… what’s your principle?
• This will create CONFUSION FOR YOUR
CHILDREN: what principles to follow.
• One child will believe his/her mommy’s way and
the other child will believe his/her daddy’s way.
• Your home should not be a place of confusion.
• GOD is a GOD of order.
• ASK QUESTIONS AND SEE THEIR LIFESTYLE.
• Are they living according their biblical principles?
• Having two different biblical/faith principles will NEVER make you
become one.
• Genesis 2:24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and
hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
YOU WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE BY
GOD ON YOUR CHILDREN AS PARENTS
• As a parent, you have the responsibility to tend to your children’s spiritual
growth and education. We are a child’s first witnesses to the gospel.
SHARING JESUS IS OUR MOST IMPORTANT DUTY.
• Ephesians 6:4 Nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
• Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old
he will not depart from it.
BUT I LOVE HIM/HER EVEN WHEN
WE’RE UNEQUALLY YOKED…
