O A still life is a painting/drawing/photograph featuring an arrangement of


inanimate, everyday objects, whether natural objects (flowers, food, etc.) or
manufactured items (books, bottles, crockery, etc.).

Tips for getting a best still
life
O Pretend you’ve never seen that object before,
look at it with new eyes
O Draw realistically not symbolically.
O Think about shading not just drawing
REQUIRED: pencil on paper, use value
REQUIRED: fill the page, consider background
REQUIRED: be as realistic as possible, and be creative
Use time wisely, work with care.

You will work for the next few days to complete
a still life drawing in class.

O Sketchbook
O Pencil and Eraser;
O Still Life Arrangement – be sure you can see it clearly

You should plan out composition in your group – you must


demonstrate
thought and planning
We may color these in or leave them in black/white,
media will be your choice (pencil, charcoal, pastel, color pencil).
