SURFACE AREA AND

VOLUME OF CYLINDER
WHAT IS SURFACE AREA?

• The total area occupied by the surfaces of an object is called

its surface area. In geometry, different 3D shapes have
different surface areas which can be easily calculated using the
formulas that we will be learning in this article. The surface
area is classified into two categories:

• Lateral surface area or Curved surface area

• Total surface area
• There is a different surface area formula for every geometrical
shape, but the idea behind all is to get the total area occupied
by all the faces of the objects. The total surface area considers
all the faces of the 3D shape including the flat surfaces and the
curved surfaces
SURFACE AREA OF CYLINDER

• The formula to calculate the total surface area of cylinder is

WHAT IS VOLUME?

• Volume is the measure of the 3-dimensional space occupied by

matter, or enclosed by a surface, measured in cubic units. The
SI unit of volume is the cubic meter (m3), which is a derived
unit.

• Litre (L) is a special name for the cubic meter (m3)

• Milliliter (mL) is a special name for the cubic centimeter
(cm3).
VOLUME OF A CYLINDER

• The volume of the cylinder can be given by the product of the

area of base and height .For any cylinder with base “radius “
and height the volume will be base times the height

•volume = πr2h cubic metre
