CASE NO.1 Izza is a very diligent student. She attends class regularly and spends most of her time studying her lessons and doing her assignments. The effort made by Izza does not go unnoticed by her professor. When the semester ended, her grade was not enough to reach the passing rate of the subject. But despite the circumstances, her professor recognized Izza’s effort, and out of pity, reconsidered her by giving a passing mark. However, with this action, the professor was suspended for the rest of the year. CASE NO.2 It is no longer unusual in the Philippines that during elections season religious leaders always remind their followers to select a political candidate according to the moral criteria and guidelines of the Church, such as being honest, loyal, dedicated, etc. There are church leaders who would really say to their members to follow the dictates of their conscience in selecting the right politicians. However, looking at the reality of life in the Philippines, there are also people suffering from poverty would eventually choose a candidate who would uplift their conditions in life regardless of who religious leaders select or recommend. CASE NO.3 Roel is a former Christian who converted into Islam because he married a Muslim woman. In the Islam world, eating pork is against their religion because it is stated in the Qur’an, the Holy Book of Islam. But when Roel visited his Christian family, he saw that his family is celebrating the Feast of St. Antonio de Padua in their village. It is a Catholic celebration in which Catholic Christians pay honor to their patron saints. His family cooked something for the feast. Unknowingly, since he is so hungry, Roel ate a steak thinking that it was made of beef. Lately, he realize that the steak was made out of pork because his sister told him about it only after he finished eating. Hence, he was very upset and sad of what happened. CASE NO.4 Greg is a discreet homosexual. He finds having sex with fellow males as more pleasurable that doing it with opposite sex. He never felt pleasure with an opposite sex even before. Having sexual relation with the same sec according to him is somewhat natural and good in itself. However, his parents are totally against it. It was so that he rebel against his family and stated living with his gay friends. Hence, this gives him more happiness than staying with his family. CASE NO.5 Leah was diagnosed with cancer between the fallopian tube and the uterus. She is 32 years old and her one concern was her unborn child which she is carrying. She even refused to take any medicine except paracetamol, in case it may harm the baby. The doctor advised her to undergo a surgery to remove the cancer cell in the area affected, but it will endanger the life of the baby in her womb. She need to undergo the operation as soon as possible or else she will die, but he baby will be saved. Leah refused to undergo surgery because she wanted her baby to live. However, his husband wanted her more than the baby. The operation was pursued when she was already unconscious and the husband give the approval of the operation. The baby died and it made her very sad and sorry of what happened. CASE NO.6 Ali is a Kurdish native man in a Christian village of Kurdistan. He is the only child and the breadwinner of his family. Ali is a devoted Christian. He is also a local policeman in their village. One day, their village is attacked by rebels who engage in killing spree. The leader of the rebels was looking for new recruits to join their rebellion. Ali was asked to join the group and if he refused the group will kill all his family. Ali decided to join the group with heavy heart. In the next village, he joined the rebels in killing people. CASE NO.7 Andrew was afraid to fail the subject, so he sneaks into the faculty room and get one copy of their exam in Ethics. The next day, he distributed copies of the exam to his classmates which makes the whole class pass the examination. The whole class was very happy of the result of their exam. CASE NO.8 John is legally married to Nora. One day, Nora caught John having a sexual activity with another woman named Gloria. However, John loved Nora so much that he really wants her forgiveness. In line of his being sorry of his action, he cut off his sexual organ. On seeing this, Nora got even furious and cursed John and his action. Hence, John was left castrated and broken hearted at the same time. CASE NO.9 A student caught copying someone else’s paper during an exam. When confronted by the teacher, the student says that he is simply doing what comes naturally when one does not know anything about the question in the exam. Having said this, the student was asked to leave the classroom and the rest of the class who have not cheated received a bonus grade from the teacher. CASE NO.10 An employee was caught by his manager taking money from the counter. It was so that the manager fired the employee. As a consequence the employee became jobless and have no food for his family, but the company became peaceful now. PART TWO CRITICAL ANALYSIS 1. Choose one Moral Issue in the Philippines today (SHOULD NOT BE POLITICAL OR RELIGIOUS). 2. The Group should unanimously agree to have this issue. 3. Each member of the group (including the leader) should give a 5 sentences reaction. 4. You must first answer the question “Is it moral or Immoral?” then you have to support your answer with an explanation using the theories of ethics.
