What will you do if you found a

lost dog? Will you keep the dog or
return it to its owner?
Annie Finds a Dog
One rainy afternoon, as Annie walked home from school, she
saw a small dog wandering down the street. It was soaking in
the rain.
“Come here, boy. Come,” called Annie. The dog came to her
slowly. So Annie took it under her umbrella.
Looking at the dog’s collar, she learned that the dog’s name was
Max. Annie decided to take Max home with her.
“Oh, Annie! Whose dog is that?” Mr. Padilla asked when Annie
arrived home with Max.
“The dog’s name is Max. I found him down the street, Papa,”
said Annie. “Can we keep him?”
“Max? Did you give him that name?” asked Mr. Padilla.
Annie Finds a Dog
“No, Papa. His collar says ‘Max,’ so I think that’s his name.”
“Then we can’t keep him. If Max has a collar, it means he is
somebody’s pet,” Mr.Padilla explained.
“But, Pa! I found him alone on the street and it was raining very
hard. If Max has an owner, I’m sure he doesn’t care about him.
He left him alone in the rain!”
“Annie, what if Max and his owner just lost each other? Don’t
you think they should be together? Maybe Max misses his
owner.”
Annie thought for a while .
“You’re right, Pa. I’m sorry”.
Annie Finds a Dog
“That’s alright. Now, get a towel from the kitchen and dry Max
up.”
“Okay, Papa. Maybe tomorrow we could post signs at the plaza
about a dog that was found,” said Annie.
“That’s a wonderful idea!” said Mr. Padilla. “I’m sure Max will be
glad to be with his owner again.”
