“MY VISION FOR SOUTH
AFRICA”
“My Vision for South Africa” is a blueprint of what an ideal South
Africa would be like through the eyes of author, and South
African native, Desmond Tutu. In this reading, Tutu specifies what
South Africa would have to do to have a positive change. He first
states that all“should have the freedom to become fully human”,
meaning that no one is born with any restrictions, and they can do
as they want. He strengthens this thought with the idea that God
even respects our freedom, in the sense that he would rather see
one enter hell freely then compel one to go to heaven.
Freedom is the gift to be able to share with others, and a
rare one that is. Tutu explains that Blacks are losing this
attribute to the rise of capitalism in the West.Tutu is
against this political system because it encourages
selfishness, and that is not represent the meaning of being
free. Children are picking up bad habits from the ideas
passed on through capitalism and basing their beliefs on
receiving rather than giving. Tutu explores the vision of
having a socio-economic system that is the opposite of
Capitalistic and favors giving more than receiving.
