CASE INTRODUCTION

• MacFayden and Mathew Morden are second-year HBA students at the Richard Ivey School of
Business.

• They are employed by a company called GetClarity Inc. One of their clients has asked for a data
analysis report.

• This was a customer from the Auto-manufacturing industry looking for a prospective dealership
location.

• The selection of the dealership location requires the study of comparison between national and area
demographic data.
GetClarity (A) - Objective

Study the demographic data for the selected area as % of area population and this data
would then be compared to national population data to see the relative age of the area.

T-test is to be done with varying hypotheses for the average age of the area.

Determine how much older/ younger the selected area was compared to the rest of the
population.
Demographic distribution

Sample Mean of area demographics (X1) 38.70409182

Sample Mean of national demographics (X2) 38.93743744
µ1  Mean age of area (observed) population
µ2  Mean age of national (aggregate) population
Hypotheses testing

F-Test Two-Sample for Variances

 P value > Alpha (0.05)

 Hence, = 1
 Proceed with t-test for equal variances
t-Test: Two-Sample Assuming Equal Variances

 P value << Alpha (0.05)

 t-cal lies in the rejection area
 We infer that the mean age of area’s population is less than the mean age of
nation’s population

 So the area is perfectly suitable for the dealership

 Location's market size would be greater for older aged population
GetClarity (B) - Objective

Decision Making – Aggregate data (or) Observed data.

The aggregated data represented all of the transactions that went on in the
area, along with the demographic data for those specific transactions.

The observed data represented the number of vehicles that entered a nearby
dealership and, using the make , model, and years of those cars, and years
of those cars.
AREA AGGREGATED DATA
OBSERVATION

 AREA AGGREGATED VARIANCE= 203.11

 AREA OBSERVATION VARIANCE= 183.23
