MATH 5-Lesson 39-Q2-Week 4.

Multiplies decimals up to 2 decimal places

by 1 to 2 digit whole numbers.
M5NS-IId-111.1, MISOSA Grade 5 Module-
Multiplication of Decimals and Whole Numbers.
DRILL:
Give the product mentally.

MOTIVATION:
Which are decimals?
Which are whole numbers?

15 891
• What’s the difference
between a whole
number and a decimal
number? Can we
multiply the two
numbers?
Presentation:

Rudolf lives 2.4

km from school. How
far does he ride in
going to and from the
school?
Presentation:

a. How far is Rudolf’s

house from the school?
b. What is being asked
in the problem?
Group the pupils and have
them perform the task.
Performing the Activity:
To find the answer we multiply 2.4 by 2.
Solution: Steps
2.4 a. Multiply just like whole numbers.
2x4= 8
x 2 2x2= 4
b. Count the decimal places in the
factors.
c. The number of decimal places in the product
is equal to the sum of the decimal places in the
factors.
Processing the Activities:

After the activity, see to it that the

teacher immediately sets remedial for
those who got the wrong answers.
Did you learn something from
the activity?
How did you get the answer?
Did you follow the steps?
Reinforcing the Concept and Skills:
Explore and Discovery:

Look at this square. What is its perimeter

3.5 cm
How can you find the perimeter?
How many sides has a square?
What can you say about its side?
3.5 cm

Because there are 4 equal sides and each measures 3.5 cm, we can
compute this as 4 x 3.5 = N. Here’s how this is done.

3.5 Steps a. Multiply just like whole numbers.

4x5= 20
x 4 4 x 3 = 12 + 2 = 14
one decimal place b. Count the decimal places in the
factors.
c. Place the decimal point in the product. The
decimal place in the product is equal to the total
number of decimal places in the factors.
Get Moving:

Multiply. Choose your answer from the choices

given inside the parenthesis.

1.)4 x 7.28 =( a. 29.12

b. 291.2 c. 2.912 )
2.)7 x 3.14 =( a. 20.98
b. 21.98 c. 22.98 )
Get Moving:

3.)3 x 6.25 = ( a.
18.25 b. 18.5 c. 18.75 )
4.)2 x 12.25 =( a. 24.1
b. 24.5 c. 25.5 )
5.)6 x 5.75=( a. 34.5 b.
3.45 c. 0.345 )
Summarizing the Lesson:
Lead the pupils to generalize that:
To multiply decimals by whole
numbers, multiply like whole
numbers then count the number of
decimal places in the factors. The
sum of the number of decimal places
in the factor is equal to the number
of decimal places in the product.
Applying to New and Other Situations:
a. Complete the table by giving each product.
