1. Categorical Variables – represent
unordered categories, groups or classes
(multiple intelligences, learning styles,
civil status)
2. Dichotomous variables – represent only
two categories (sex - M/F, side -L/R,
diabetes - type 1 / type 2)

more than two categories (educational

4. Continuous variables – take on any
range of value (weight, height, speed,

 Independent variables – are the cause

dependent variables
 Dependent variables – refer to those
that are affected by the cause variables.
