What is Abstract?

• An abstract is a concise summary of a research paper


on entire thesis.
• It is an original work, consist of 250 words in length
which is indented and single spaced.
• It is immediately following the title and should be the
last thing you write
Why write an abstract?

• Abstracts allow readers who maybe interested in the paper to


quickly decide whether it is relevant to their purpose or
whether they need to read the whole paper.
• Writing abstract is necessary to:
- submission of articles to journals
- application for research grants
- completion and submission of theses
- submission of proposals for conference papers
What to include in an Abstract?
1. Reasons for Writing/Background
What is importance of the research?
2. Problem
What problem does this work attempt to solve?
What is the scope of the project?
3. Methodology
Specific models or approaches used in the larger study
4. Results
specific data that indicates the results of the project
Discuss the findings in a more general way
5. Impications
Are there any practical or theoretical applications from your findings or
implications for future research?
