Latar Belakang

Kesultanan Aceh Darussalam merupakan kerajaan Islam yang didirikan oleh Sultan Ali Mughayat Syah atau
Raja Ibrahim pada tahun 1496 Masehi, di atas bekas wilayah Kesultanan Lamuri.Sebelum akhirnya runtuh di
awal abad ke-20, Kesultaan Kerajaan Aceh baru menjadi penguasa di tahun 1524 M usai mengambil alih
Samudera Pasai.Awal mula keberadaan Kerajaan Aceh Darussalam merupakan daerah taklukan dari Kerajaan
Pedir. Wilayah Darussalam mulai menunjukkan perkembangan yang cukup pesat saat Malaka jatuh kepada
Portugis di tahun 1511. Setelah Malaka jatuh dan mengalami keruntuhan akibat serangan Portugis.

Kerajaan Aceh terletak di Aceh atau sekarang yang dikenal dengan Banda Aceh. Wilayah kekuasaan Kerajaan
Aceh meliputi Provinsi Aceh, Pesisir Sumatera Utara, dan Semenanjung Melayu. Kerajaan Aceh mencapai
puncak kejayaan di bawah kepemimpinan Sultan Iskandar Muda (1607-1636)
