Abstract
Transportation is the movement of people or goods from one place to another.
Transport is important since it enables to trade between people, which in turn
establishes civilizations. The transport system comprises of highways or
roadways, railways, water ways and air ways.
Road ways include highways, city roads, village roads, feeder roads

Flexible pavements are those, which on the entire have low or immaterial flexural
quality and are somewhat Flexible in their basic activity under the loads. The
Flexible pavements layer reflects the distortion of the lower layers on – to the
surface of the layer. Accordingly, if the lower layer of the pavements or soil
subgrade is undulated, the adaptable parts: 1)soil subgrade 2) sub-base course 3)
base course furthermore, 4) surface course.
Objective of the project

• To observe the process of layer by layer pavement

construction at the site - a stretch of 3 kilometer road
from Osman nagar to vattinagulapally.
• Observing different quality check procedures for
testing pavement construction materials.
Methodology
Flexibe Pavement Layout
Materials Used:
MATERIALS FOR SUB-BASE COURSE: In highway engineering, subbase is
the layer of aggregate material laid on the subgrade, on which the base course
layer is located. It may be omitted when there will be only foot traffic on the
pavement, but it is necessary for surfaces used by vehicles. Sub-Base course is
the layer (or layers) under the base layer. A sub-base is not always needed. A
proper sub-base consists of various sizes of crushed stone aggregate, commonly
known as crusher run. Depending on the sub soils on your site you may need 8-
12 inches of various sizes of sub-base. With well drained sub soils, without
movement, added sub-base materials may be sufficient, al with proper pitch &
grade. If the sub-base is knowingly sufficient, grading & compaction with
vibratory roller or plate compactor in small areas, may be all that is necessary.
1. Crushed stone
2. Crushed slag
3. Concrete
4. Slate
MATERIALS FOR BASE COURSE:

If there is a sub-base course, the base course is constructed

directly above this layer. Otherwise, it is built directly on top of
the subgrade. Typical base course thickness ranges from 100
to 150mm. The base course of road serves as the essential
basic segment of the adaptable asphalt. It conveys the forced
wheel load to the asphalt establishment, the sub-base, as well
as the sub-grade. The materials making the base course are
select hard and tough totals, which generally fall into two
fundamental classes: balanced out and granular. The balanced
out bases ordinarily consist of crushed or uncrushed total
bound with a stabilizer, for example, bitumen.
MATERIALS FOR WEARING COURSE:

• Bitumen

• Aggregates

• Tar
SUB-BASE CONSTRUCTION:
GRANULAR SUB-BASE:
Experimental Programme

1. CBR Test-
2. SIEVE ANALYSIS
3. SAND REPLACEMENT TEST
Results

• Durability of the roads depends mainly on

proper construction process and proper use of
materials.
• As per our the planning and designing of the
flexible pavement has been observed
effectively in our project. We have learnt the
design of the structural elements by observing
practical work at the site.
Conclusions

• Most road projects today need modifications to

existing roadways to improve the condition of roads.
• The planning, operation and maintenance of such
projects are certainly improves the roads and
commuters happiness.
• We can hereby conclude that “Practical knowledge is
far superior than Theoretical knowledge”.
