Diesel Controllers
Components

 AC and DC circuit
breakers  Mark II Diesel

 Master USB Port

 Mark IIXG
 Plug and Play Board
 Dual Battery Chargers
 Pressure transducer
– No Mercury
Engine Protection Circuits
 Diesel Controller per NFPA-20
– Allows the Engine to Continue
Operation:
– When a Low Oil Pressure Condition
Exists
– When a High Cooling Water Temperature
Condition Exists

 Controller shuts down the engine in

“Test” mode for all of the above.
Pressure Limiting Diesels
 PLD Engines
– Reduces pump speed to limit pump discharge and prevent
over-pressure
– Mechanical means to limit pressure
Mark IIXG Controller and PLDs
 NFPA 20 - 12.4.1.4 requires the controller
provide a visible and audible alarm for “System
Overpressure” 2010 edition.
 Alarms are provided as standard with Firetrol
diesel controllers.
 Option (-CPL) must be added for a remote
“System Overpressure” alarm. There is a small
adder for this feature.
Electronic Engines
 NFPA 20, 2010 Section 12.4.1.4 requires the controller
have visible and audible indicators for the ECM
(electronic control module) switch being in the alternate
position and a fuel injection malfunction .
 Typical engine shown with ECM
Mark IIXG Controller and Electronic Engines
 Terminals 301 and 302 must be added to all controller
brands to interconnect with electronic engines for
required alarms.
 The electronic engine terminals are standard in all
Firetrol diesel controllers.

 Firetrol standard diesel controller works with all

current NFPA 20 engine manufacturer designs.

Firetrol Product Enhancement –
“Jockey Talk”
 What is JockeyTalk??
 Advanced feature that allows Mark IIXG FPC to communicate
with JockeyXG
 What does it do?
 Jockey pressure and status monitored in main fire pump
controller
 A pressure delta can be set to alarm if there is a discrepancy
between jockey and FPC
 All jockey events reported and logged at main FPC
 How complicated to hook up?
 Simply install a Cat5 (Ethernet) cable between controllers
and enable the FPC!

Seismic Certification – Shake Table Testing
Seismic Certification
Due to the rising concern for safety during catastrophic events such as
earthquakes, Firetrol pursued approval for installation of fire pump
controllers in seismically active regions. The results were
astounding!
1. Controllers were initially tested at an Sds (short period spectral
acceleration) level of 1.93 and then at the maximum level of 2.50.
2. Because all components functioned during and after each shake test,
Firetrol achieved an importance factor of 1.5 at an Sds level of 2.50 in
accordance with IBC 2009 and ICC-EC AC156.
3. Meets The Requirements Of The 2010 California Building Code
4. Firetrol brand controllers are approved for installation in most of the
seismically active regions around the world!
How to order
 Option (-SEI) Seismic Certification
– This option should be added to controller to receive:
• Seismic Certificate which includes S/N and signature
• Label on controller that denotes seismic rating
