Text?

• Is a text used to retell the past experience.

• Recount is used to write our daily experience.

• We use recount in : Diary book, letter or E-mail, biography, history etc.

• The purpose/social function is to inform or entertain the reader

 Features of the Recount Text

Recounts usually include the following grammatical features:

• Descriptive words to give details about who, what, when, where and how.
• The use of the past tense to retell the events.
• Using words that show the order, conjunction of the events (ex: first, next, then, finally, after that)
and time connectors (ex: after, before, as, until/till, finally, after that, first, second…, suddenly,
when, at the time.
• Using adverb of time, ex: yesterday, the day before yesterday, just now, last night, last Sunday,
last…., two days ago, three days ago,…..ago
 Yesterday, I went to a “Gramedia Book Store” in
Lippo Karawaci. It was a famous book store in Tangerang.
Example of Personal We can find many good books there. I went there by car with
my Father because it was quite far from my house. I went
from my house at 10 pm.
After I arrived there, I looked for my favorite books,

English book!. I saw many interesting book there but I was

looking for book entitled “English is Fun”.
Finally I found the book after looking for about one
hour. After that, I went to the cashier to pay the book. The
price was not too expensive. It was just forty thousand rupiah.
I arrived at home at 1 pm. I was so excited and
couldn’t wait to read the book I just bought. I thought that
hunting a book is very interesting. Did you think the same?
