SITUATION 1- AMY, A RECENTLY LICENSED NURSE, HAS BEEN

ASSIGNED TO THE CRITICAL CARE UNIT. ON THE THIRD DAY OF

ORIENTATION, HER PRECEPTOR TELLS HER THAT SHE HAS BEEN DOING AN
EXCELLENT JOB.

RATIONALIZATION BY: CHERRIEUS ANN CEREZO

1. A STRATEGY FOR PROMOTING BOTH SOCIALIZATION AND
RESOCIALIZATION AS WELL AS CLARIFICATION OF ROLE EXPECTATIONS IS
THE USE OF THE FOLLOWING, EXCEPT:

• Role models- a person whose behavior in a particular role is imitated by others.

• Preceptorship- a period to support newly qualified nurses to make the transition from student to develop
their practice further
• Mentors- A mentor is the main person you rely on to give you advice and guidance
• Organizer- articulate needs, clarify and identify problems, explore appropriate strategies, select and apply
intervention strategies… dli sya direct nga ga Initiate ug interactions sa uban

Note: If socialization is the lifelong process of learning the values and norms of a given society, then
resocialization refers to undergoing this process again by drastically changing one's values and beliefs.
2. ORGANIZATIONS WHICH UTILIZES PRECEPTORSHIP HELP NEW EMPLOYEES CLARIFY
THEIR ROLES AND IMPROVE THEIR SKILL. HOWEVER, NURSE SHIELA, BEING THE HEAD
NURSE IN THE UNIT, MUST REMEMBER THAT PRECEPTORSHIP HAS ITS DOWNSIDE:

• Preceptee enhances its skills during the period of the preceptorship program. (preceptor help students
translate theoretical learning to clinical practice.)
• The incentive pay for the preceptors reinforces that the organization value this role.
• There is a tendency that the use of the preceptors will be overused.
• Workload for the preceptor will be decreased.

Note: Experienced staff nurses tend to be overused to precept these new grads, causing burnout and turnover
among core staff. (Bambi Gore, MSN, FNP-BC, 2021) https://www.simplifimsp.com/talk-with-bambi-

3. IN ORDER FOR THE ORGANIZATIONS TO AVOID THE MANY POTENTIAL
HAZARDS OF PRECEPTORSHIP PROGRAMS, WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING
SHOULD BE UNDERTAKEN?
• 1) Carefully selecting the preceptors (Today's clinical preceptors need to be more carefully selected, oriented, and evaluated to
ensure quality education of nursing students.- Tanya K Altmann, 2006)
• 2) Selecting only the preceptors who have strong desire to be role models (Preceptors must be active teachers willing to share ideas
and help new nurses search out answers, as well as excellent role models- Phyllis Hart Tipton, PhD, RN, 2016)
• 3) Preparing preceptors for their role by giving formal classes- (Novice preceptors need training and support to learn a new role, and
experienced preceptors desire continued support and training.-
• Judy Lazarus CNM, DNP, ARNP, 2016)
• 4) Leave the preceptor and preceptee alone in the entire program. (Accompanies the preceptee in all new tasks, skills, assessments,
and experiences (never leaves the preceptee alone in a new situation, Ciocco, Maggie, MS, RN, BC,2022)
• 5) Ensure and monitor the good communication and mutual goal setting. (An effective preceptor needs to be capable of: assessing
learning needs and setting goals.- Wolters Kluwer, 2022)
• 1, 2, 3
• 2,3,4
• 1, 2,3, & 5
• 1,2,3, & 4
4. IN THE CHED MEMORANDUM ORDER NO. 15 SERIES OF 2017, THE USUAL
RATIO OF FACULTY TO STUDENTS IN THE CLINICAL IS:

• 1:8
• 1:10
• 1:12
• 1:15
The standard or recognized ratio of faculty to students in the clinical is 1:10 bases on the
CHED Memorandum order no. 15 series of 2017.
5. IN A ONE-ON-ONE PRECEPTOR MODEL:

• The RN preceptor receives a stipend from the nursing program in addition to the salary
paid by the hospital
• The RN preceptor assumes overall responsibility for teaching and evaluation of the
student.
• Functions as a role model in the clinical setting. (It is only the statement that is related
and defined to the question.)
• Assumes (without proof.) that the student is compliant with standards regarding CPR,
immunizations, and standards in nursing practice.
