● In 1854, the Court of Directors of the East India Company in London
sent and educational dispatch to the Governor General in India. It was issued by Charles Wood, the President of the Board of Control of the Company. It came to be known as Wood's Dispatch. ● Some salient points of this Dispatch are as follows: ● European learning would enable Indians to understand the advantages of expansion of trade and commerce. ● Indians would understand the importance of development of resources of the country. ● Learning the European ways of life would change the taste of Indians and would create the demand for British goods. European learning would improve the moral character of Indians. This would help in ensuring a good supply of civil servants who could be trusted.
