Ganesha


LORD GANESH
Ganesha, also known as Ganapati and Vinayaka , is one
of the best-known and most worshipped deities in
the Hindu pantheon .  His image is found
throughout India , Sri Lanka and Nepal, Hindu sects
worship him regardless of affiliations.  Devotion to
Ganesha is widely diffused and extends to Jains and
Buddhists.[
 Although he is known by many attributes,
Ganesha's elephant head makes him easy to identify.
 Ganesha is widely revered as the remover of obstacles,
 the patron of arts and sciences and the deva of intellect
and wisdom. As the god of beginnings, he is honored at
the start of rituals and ceremonies. Ganesha is also
invoked as patron of letters and learning during writing
sessions. Several texts relate mythological
anecdotes associated with his birth and exploits and
explain his distinct iconography.

GANESH CHATURTHI
 Ganesha Chaturthi (also known
as Vināyaka Chaturthi)is the Hindu
festival celebrated in honour of the
elephant-headed god , Ganesha . This is a
very auspicious day celebrated to pray to
the god so that every new activity that is
started is successfully completed without
any obstacles .(Vighna = Obstacle).He is the
God of knowledge . (Knowledge = ज्ञान)
CELEBRATIONS
 The festival is celebrated by families at
home , by people at their places of work
and in public. The public celebration
involves installing idol of Ganesha in
public pandals (temporary shrines) and
group worship.
 At home , an appropriately-sized idol is
installed and worshipped with family and
friends. At the end of the festival , the idols
are immersed in a large body of water
such as the sea, river or a lake . The clay
idols disintegrate over time in the water.
FOODS
 The primary sweet dish during the festival
is modak .A modak is a dumpling made
from rice or wheat flour, stuffed with
grated coconut, jaggery, dried fruits and
other condiments and steamed or fried .
Another popular sweet dishes
are karanji ,similar to modak in
composition and taste but in a semicircular
shape and Laddus , that are ball-shaped .
Laddus are made of flour, minced dough
and sugar with other ingredients that vary
by recipe ..
FAMOUS TEMPLES
 Shreemant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapati
Temple (Marathi: श्रीमंत दगडू शेठ हलवाई गणपती)  is
dedicated to the Hindu God Ganesh . The
temple is popular in Maharashtra and is
visited by thousands of pilgrims every year.
Devotees of the temple include celebrities
and Chief Ministers of Maharashtra who visit
during the annual ten-
day Ganeshotsav festival .[3] The main Ganesh
idol is insured for sum of ₹10 million .
ASHTAVINAYAKA
TEMPLE
 Ashtavinayaka or eight Ganeshas is
located in Maharashtra and the
Ashtavinayaka yatra covers the eight holy
temples of Ganesha . All the Eight 
Ashtavinayak Templs are Swayambhu
(self-originated) and Jagrut. The various
names of Lord Ganesh are Moreshwar,
Mahaganpati , Chintamani , Girijatmak ,
Vighneshwar, Siddhivinayak ,
Ballaleshwar and Varad Vinayak .

TEMPLE
 It is one of the most famous Ganesh temples
in the country. The temple , with one of the
richest temple trust of India, is considered
as one of the must visit temple for during
Ganesh Chaturthi . It is believed that the
devotees who bow their heads to the idols
will get their wishes. 
PARVATHI GANESH TEMPLE
 Out of all the monuments present in hampi the
most popular one is the Parvati Ganesha temple .
The best part of this place is the 16 ft high
Ganesha idol . The idol looks quite main stream
unless you go around the back where you will find
that Lord Ganesha is actually sitting on the lap of
his mother Parvati .
KHAJRANA AND BADA GANPATI
TEMPLE
 Khajrana Ganesha Temple was constructed by Rani
Ahilyabai Holkar. This temple is one of the famous Hindu
temples in India . Mostly Wednesday and Sunday huge
people will come to this temple for offering prayers. As per a
local belief, all the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled , once
they worship in this temple . 
 This bada ganapati Temple was built in the year 1875.
According to the mythology, one of the residents of the city
of Avantika or Ujjain dreamt of Lord Ganesh in his sleep.
So, he rose up on the next day and prepared for the
enormous statue of Lord Ganesha , so that the Lord blesses
him. Bada in Hindi means large , so the temple is known as
Bada Ganapati Temple , since it encloses the large statue of
Lord Ganapati Bappa .The Bada Ganapati is a worthwhile
site at Indore . It consists of a huge statue of Lord Ganesh ,
perhaps the largest in the world , which is approximately
25 feet tall and the color of the statue is Bright Orange .
