QUARTER 2
WEEK 5: Describe the effect of the environment on the life
cycle of organisms
Effects of Environmental Conditions in
the Life cycle of Organisms

Different environmental conditions like flood,

drought, ultraviolet rays, and environmental
calamities have great effect in the life of organisms.
Landslide
Flood
Wildfire Earthquake
Drought
Tornado
Certain conditions bring damages and
destruction. They are flood, drought, and
ultraviolet rays. Calamities can destroy the
surrounding. Fire, landslide, and earthquake
are calamities. Volcanic eruption is also a
calamity.
a. Drought- The long period of dryness is called
drought. It is prolonged dryness. It can cause
food and water shortage. Rivers and lakes
become dry. Heatstroke and death can be
caused by drought.
b. Earthquake- The shaking and trembling of the
earth is called earthquake. Collapse of buildings
and bridges, and destruction of roads may occur.
c. Fire- is the state of instant burning. It is
shown by light, flame and heat. Burning can
cause death to plants and animals.
d. Flood- refers to the overflowing of a large
amount of water beyond its normal limits. It can
cause waterborne diseases due to dirty water
supply. Flood can also traumatize victims and
their families for long period of time.
e. Landslide- It is the rapid downward movement of a
mass of rock, earth, or artificial fill on a slope. Plants
can be washed away down the slopes. Destruction of
wildlife’s habitat and trouble of finding food may
happen.
f. Typhoon- The condition of the environment where
there is a heavy fall of rain, snow or hail accompanied
by strong winds is called typhoon. Many large trees may
be uprooted. Residential land, and commercial
buildings maybe severely damaged. Electrical power
and communication services are also disrupted.
g. Ultraviolet rays- It is a type of
electromagnetic energy that makes black-
light posters glow. It can cause skin rash,
sunburn, and skin cancer.
h. Volcanic eruption- It happens when a lava
and gas are discharged from a volcanic vent.
It can cause damage of plants, livestocks and
other mammals due to lava flow, ashfall and
sand particles.
Environmental conditions can bring great effect to the
life of organisms. These environmental conditions can
cause:
trauma
lack of food
different kinds of diseases
damage of crops and livestocks
 loss of human, plant and animal lives
destruction of properties like buildings, bridges and roads
interruption of water, electrical and communication services
LET’S PRACTICE!

Most of the Visayas regions experienced typhoon

Odette causing water shortage for household, business
and farming. How can you help conserve water
especially during this condition?
LET’S EXERCISE!
Directions: Match the effect of the environmental condition to its
cause. Write the letter of the correct answer on the space
provided.
COLUMN A COLUMN B
___1. bodies of water dry up A. fire
___2. can cause soil erosion B. flood
