What is a verb?
It does not show action.
It is a state of being.
What are some forms
of be verbs?
The words am, is, are, was and
were are forms of be verbs. It
must agree with the subject.
Be Verbs Usage
am It is used with the pronoun I
is It is used with a singular noun or
pronoun
are It used with a plural noun or pronoun
was It is used with a singular noun or
pronoun if it happens in the past
were It used with a plural noun or pronoun if
it happens in the past
Let us read the short paragraph. Look for “be” verbs.

Hi, I am Joshue. I have a twin sister. Her name is Eianne. We are


both 9 years old and we are classmates. When we were in school,
we often go to the library. Ms. Mendoza was the librarian then. She
is nice. She helps us answer our assignments.
Now, we study at home. When I am doing my assignments and I
do not understand a question, I often asked for Eianne’s help. If she
does not know too, we ask our parents when they come home.
