What is SUPERPLAST ?

 In order to obtain gap graded or dense asphalt

concrete, with high performance
characteristics, Iterchimica s.r.l. has studied
and realized a compound of thermoplastic
copolymers commercially called
SUPERPLAST which, inserted directly into
the mixer during the production phase of
asphalt concrete, improves the mechanical
performances of the pavement prolonging its
useful life.
 SUPERPLAST is a compound of synthetic
copolymers resulting from the processing of
plastic materials.
(FROM Technical Booklet ITERCHIMICA )
Tensile strength test using universal testing
machine.
 As per manufacture In this chart
are compared typical stress-strain
curves for different types of
polymers, among which the
copolymers compound
SUPERPLAST.
Plan of analyses

We have fixed the proportion

To identify the correct % of Identifying the optimum % of
of aggregate and variate only Evaluation of PG76H-10 with
superplast , we have selected superplast to achieve the
the percentage of superplast the same proportion and
HWT test(Hamburg Wheel same traffic grade of PG76H-
(0%,4%,6%,8%,10%)then compare it with superplast.
Tracking). 10
test it with HWT machine.
Why HWT (Homburg wheel trucking) ?

As per Asphalt Institute

 HWT does a better job of identifying mixtures
that are susceptible to premature failure than
other laboratory tests (Lottman, Hveem
stabilometer, Creep, etc).
 HWT is used by TxDOT (Texas Department of
Transportation) in lieu of stability and Lottman
tests for design and project control .
 Other agencies use HWT as a forensic tool.
 HWT or other loaded wheel tests can and should
be used for verifying designs and for evaluating
existing materials.

NOTES

 THIS REPORT IS NOT CARING OUTE THE FAILURE OR PASSING OF HWT TEST,
IT IS ONLY TO SHOW THE ABILITY OF SUPERPLAST TO UPGRADE THE
ASPHALT MIX.
 THE OPTIMUM % OF SUPERPLAST CAN INCREASE OR DECREASE DEPEND ON
TYPE BITUMEN, AGGREGATE AND MIX.
 THE SUPERPLAST SHOULD BE SPRAYED WITH SOME WAY TO AVOID THE
GATHERING.
 THE SIZE AND FORM OF SUPERPLAST PARTICULS CAN AFFECT THE RESULT
OF TEST (THIS HYPOTHESIS FOR DISCUSSION AND PROOF)
 ALL TESTS HAS BEEN DOCUMENTED AND CONDUCTED IN HOT.ENG
ASPHALT PLANT LABORATORY.
