THE
CIRCULATORY
SYSTEM
The Basics of The Cardiovascular Sys.

What is The Circulatory System?

The Circulatory System is responsible for

transporting nutrients, wastes and other materials in
the body.

The Circulatory System has 3 parts

The Heart, The Blood vessles and The blood
The Heart

• It pumps blood
• the heart has 4 chambers: the left atrium, left
ventricle, right atrium, right ventricle
• the heart has 4 valves: Pulmonic, Aortic, Tricuspid,
Mitral
The Heart Chambers
Poor-oxygenated blood from all parts of the body enters the right
atrium then goes to the right ventricle and pumps blood to the lungs
for oxygenation. Oxygen-rich blood from the lungs enters the left
atrium then goes to
left ventricle then pumps blood to all across the body.
The Valves

The Heart has valves to prevent backflow of the blood in which it

is deadly
The Blood Vessels

• they are channels that carries blood throughout the body

• blood vessels a form of a loop which begins and ends in
the heart
• there are 3 types of blood vessels: artery, vein, and
capillary
Artery

Arteries sends oxygen-rich blood throughout the body. Arteries

also plays a role for distributing nutrients. The biggest artery of
the body is the Aorta
Vein

Veins carry deoxygenated back to the heart then to the lungs for
oxygenation. The biggest Veins of the body are the superior &
inferior vena cava
Capillary

Capillaries are the smallest blood vessels, it is one cell thick.

Capillaries transports blood to the organs and tissues in the body.
it is also place where waste products are exchanged
Blood

• Blood is a liquid tissue

• Blood transports nutrients
• Blood is composed of: red blood cells, white blood
cells, platelets suspended in the blood plasma
Blood Contents
The blood has many contents: 55% is Plasma and the remaining
45% are Red Blood Cells, White Blood cells, Platelets

• Plasma
• Leukocytes
• Erythrocyte
• Thrombocytes
Plasma

Plasma is the liquid part of the blood. It consist about 55% of the
blood. It help your body recover from injury, distribute nutrients,
remove waste and prevent infection
Leukocytes

Leukocytes also commonly known as the white blood cell is a

part of the body's immune system in which it protect our body for
foreign germs
Erythrocytes

Erythrocyte commonly known as the red blood cell is a doughnut

shaped cell that transports oxygen, nutrients and waste.
Erythrocyte has a molecule known as hemoglobin that gives the
cell and the blood its red color
Thrombocytes

Thrombocytes also commonly known as platelets are colorless

and large cells that helps to clot the blood to prevent further
bleeding
