BSNL SERVICES
• TELECOM SERVICES IN INDIA
• India has 23 Service Areas also known as – LSAs (Licensed Service Areas).
The LSAs are further categories as--Telecom Circles and Metro Districts
which includes 19 Telecom Circles & 4 Metro Districts.
• TELECOM OPERATORS IN INDIA
• The two types of Telecom Operators are:
• -Government Operators: BSNL and MTNL.
• -Private Operators: Bharti Airtel, Reliance, Vodafone, Idea etc.
BSNL AS TSP
• BSNL was regarded as Telecom Service Provider on 01.10.2000. The
Field units, then DOT (Department of Telecommunications) were
converted into BSNL. BSNL covers all over India except the Metro
Districts of New Delhi and Mumbai where MTNL (Mahanagar
Telephone Nigam Limited) operates.
BSNL ORGANIZATION

• BSNL is a 100% Govt. Company. Its highest-level Management includes-

• -CMD & BOD running the Administration at Hqr level
• -CGMTs at the Telecom Circle/District level
• The 5 BODs of BSNL are- DIR(HR), DIR(CM), DIR(EB), DIR (CFA) and
DIR(FIN). BSNL has CGMTs at Telecom Circle/District level CGMTs are
directly reporting to CMD.
FIBER TO THE HOME(FTTH)
• Fiber to the Home or simply FTTH is a technology that uses optical fiber directly from the central point to the residential premises
(as shown in the following image). It provides uninterrupted high-speed internet service. Here, “H” includes both home and small
business.
GEPON

• Ethernet Passive Optical Network .It is

also known as EPON.
• It is a device that provides point-to-
multipoint architecture and passive
optical fiber transmission.
SPILITTER CABINET

• FTTH Splitter Cabinet is specially designed for

housing passive optical splitters and
connecting feeder cables and distribution
cables in FTTH Passive Optical Network.
FTTH Splitter Cabinet provides fiber splicing,
termination, storage, and splitting up to 288
subscribers.
PARTS OF TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORK

• The main parts of Telecommunication network are:

•  Telephone Exchange (TAX)
•  Main Distribution Frame (MDF)
•  Power Plant
TELEPHONE EXCHANGE

• Equipment which effects the interconnection of telephones is known

as Switching Equipment.
• The switching centre, which houses the terminating and switching
equipment, is called Telephone Exchange.
TELEPHONE EXCHANGE

•  Various exchanges present in BSNL are:

•  C-DOT
•  OCB (Organe De Commande B2 Version)
• EWSD
MAIN DISTRIBUTION FRAME

•  MDF isa media between switching network and subscriber’s line. It is the
termination point within the local telephone exchange where exchange
equipment and termination of local loops are connected by jumper wires
STRUCTURE OF MDF

• Vertical Side
• Horizontal Side
POWER PLANT

•  The power system is intended primarily to

provide uninterrupted DC power to Telecom
equipments and current for charging the
batteries in the presence of AC Mains. The
system works from commercial AC mains
which is rectified and regulated to –50V DC
and is fed to the equipment (exchange).
BATTERY

• These days, most of the

Battery used in mobile
network is VRLA (Valve
Regulated Lead Acid
Battery) type.
CONCLUSION

• Engineering student will have to serve in the public and private sector industries and teaching in
classroom has its own limitation. So, practical training is to be done in order to improve our knowledge.
I did my training from BSNL which is one of the best-known telecommunication service provider
companies of India. The training helps me in gaining depth knowledge of the working of telephone
exchange, various technologies of BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) –GSM (Global System Mobile),
CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access), WI- FI(Wireless-Fidelity), WI-MAX (Worldwide Interoperability
for Microwave Access), and optical fibre transmission etc.
• In the end, we hereby conclude that we have successfully completed our summer training on the above
topics.
