Unit 2 FRQ Review
Respond to all parts of the question. In your
response, use substantive examples where
appropriate.

Use the bar graph to answer the following

questions.

A. Describe the percentage of White teens who

mostly disagree with their parents about politics.

B. Describe the difference between Black and

Hispanic teens on whether they agree with their
parents' political views.

C. Draw a conclusion to explain how political

socialization affects that difference.

D. Explain how the methods used to gather the data

in the bar graph reflect scientific polling practices.
Part A - Unit 2 FRQ Review
(Reading the chart)
A. Describe the
percentage of White
teens who mostly
disagree with their
parents about politics.
Two percent of white
teens mostly disagree
with their parents.
Part B - Unit 2 FRQ Review (Identifying
similarity/difference)
B. Describe the difference between Black and
Hispanic teens on whether they agree with
their parents' political views.
• Black teens tend to agree with their
parents’ political views with a high of 67%,
as opposed to Hispanic teens who agree
with their parents’ political views with a
30%.
• Ari Mina

• The difference between black and hispanic

teens on their agreement with their
political views is that 37% more of black
teens agree with their parents views
compared to hispanic teens.
• Destiny Vargas
Part C - Unit 2 FRQ Review C. Draw a conclusion to explain how political
socialization affects that difference.

(Explaining why the General Feedback:

difference may exist) 1. Must reference a factor of political socialization in

some way (or describe it in your response)
2. Conclusion must make reference to the data/your
answer to part B. (It can’t just be a vague discussion
of political socialization)

“Political socialization is how the surrounding

environment influences a person’s political
stance. Since Hispanic teens’ parents are more
likely to be immigrants from another country,
then their parents political views are probably
more influenced from being in that other
country. Hispanic teens who live in the United
States are going to be influenced very
differently than how their parents were.
Therefore, their views are not as often going to
align with the parents compared to other
groups.”
-Ruben Meza (Per. 1)
Part C - Unit 2 FRQ Review C. Draw a conclusion to explain how political socialization
affects that difference.

(Explaining why the General Feedback:

difference may exist)

1. Must reference a factor of political socialization in
some way (or describe it in your response)
2. Conclusion must make reference to the data/your
answer to part B. (It can’t just be a vague discussion of
political socialization)

“When growing up, people are surrounded by

family and culture which shapes their political
ideology. This is called political socialization.
Political socialization affects this difference
because it could mean that hisapnic families
don’t talk a lot about politics in their homes.
Because politics aren’t discusses it decreases
the chance that Hispanic children and teens
would mostly agree with their parents. This also
means that Black teens are more exposed to
politics in their household, so political
socialization would help shape their political
ideology in support of their parents.”
-Diana Hernandez (Per. 3)
Part C - Unit 2 FRQ Review C. Draw a conclusion to explain how political socialization
affects that difference.

(Explaining why the General Feedback:

1. Must reference a factor of political socialization in some

difference may exist) way (or describe it in your response)
2. Conclusion must make reference to the data/your answer
to part B. (It can’t just be a vague discussion of political
socialization)

“Since race and culture makes a big impact on how

a person acts and feels growing up, family beliefs
and parents play a role in how we see politics as
well. Parents may expose their children to political
ideas and beliefs of their own, causing many to
agree with them. However, political socialization
can happen outside of home where hispanic teens
may face controversy over immigration and other
new issues that their parents may not see,
changing their perspective and making it difficult
to agree with their parent’s traditional beliefs.
Different identities can result in different issues
and priorities, affecting political opinions as well. ”
-Alexis Munoz (Per. 4)
Part C - Unit 2 FRQ Review C. Draw a conclusion to explain how political
socialization affects that difference.
(Explaining why the General Feedback:

socialization in some way (or describe it in
your response)
2. Conclusion must make reference to the
data/your answer to part B. (It can’t just be
a vague discussion of political
socialization)

“Political socialization may affect the

differences because everyone grows
up in a different environment. For black
teens, they might be more influenced
by their parents, while a Hispanic teen
may be more influenced by school.”
-Julianna Rodriguez (Per. 5)

both communities are vastly different in many
different factors. Things varying from religion,
education, economic opportunities, region where
they are living, etc.”

Part D - Unit 2 FRQ Review
(Connect to the Content)
D. Explain how the methods used to gather the data
in the bar graph reflect scientific polling practices.

• Had to mention an element of scientific public

opinion polling (ie. random sample,
representative sample, question wording,
margin of error, etc.)

“The methods used to gather the data

in the bar graph reflect scientific
polling practices because they used
neutral and understandable
questioning, clear and easy
methodology, and listed its sources
from people they surveyed and who
gave the survey.”
-Angelica Ulloa (Per. 1)
