FCCLA Updates
● Middle School Flat Rate Pilot Program - $450.00 for every
middle school student to be affiliated.
● URBAN AFFILIATION - City of District has to have population of
over 100,000. $8,500 affiliation fee for 100% students in FCS
classes in that district.
● NEW COVID Up to 20 Leadership Package: - $320.00 total
● NEW Unlimited Package: - $800.00 total
● Regular Affiliation - $18.00 per member/advisor; 12 member
minimum
● Active Chapters - must affiliate by November 1st or the chapter
will be dropped from the advisor portal
● New/Reinstated Chapters - have until January 10 to affiliate

● National FCCLA Virtual Leadership Experience: December 8,


$150.00 per chapter, access to resources until February 12
Skill Event Competitors must register by October 26, 2020 and
there is a competitor limit, so first come, first serve! LifeSmarts
Knowledge Bowl: Only 40 teams may qualify; Online Challenge
Testing in 10 FCS Events; Registration is Open Now
CA will host the Culinary Knife Skills Event, we will need
between 30-40 Evaluators!
● Spring Leadership Meetings: TBD in person or virtual
● FCCLA State Leadership Conference is April 24−27, 2021

NATIONAL STAR UPDATES
● Terms “in person” and “virtual” competition are in event guidelines
● General Information Chart reference “in person” “virtual” for
equipment, review time, oral presentation/interview/event time
● Procedures and Time Requirements are separated into both “in
person” and “virtual” competition sections
● All documents for virtual competitions must be uploaded as PDF
● Virtual oral presentations will be extended by one minute and
participants must responds to two additional questions
● A voiceover of a virtual presentation is not allowed.
● Baking and Pastry and Culinary Arts have changed to individual
events and incorporate American Culinary Federation testing for
NLC competition
NATIONAL STAR UPDATES
● Event Management attendance requirements have been lowered
to 50 (Level 2), and 75 people (Level 3)
● Interior Design Scenario already posted in advisor portal
● Sustainability Challenge has a renewed focus on children’s health
in school settings through the Environmental Protection Agency
● Only Gold and Silver Medals will be distributed by Nationals.
Bronze recipients will receive a certificate.

Level 1: Cookie Bars
● Level 2: Cakes, Cupcakes, Pastries
● Level 3: Quick Breads, Yeast Breads
LEVEL 1, 2, OR 3*

● Level 1 - 6–8th Grade


● Level 2 - 9–10th Grade
● Level 3 - 11–12th Grade
● Level 3* (Student must be currently enrolled in an
occupational program for Culinary Arts and Baking and
Pastry)
● Mixed level teams are still allowed but must compete at the
highest level of the team’s members. Some events will still
have eligibility requirements requiring specific courses or
program enrollment to be verified at the state level.
LEVEL 1, 2, OR 3*

● This means that in events that are only Level 3, teams


cannot include students in another other grade levels.
Culinary Arts, for example, is only open to students in
grades 11 and 12.
● Events that only have Levels 2 and 3 can only have
students in grades 9-12.
● Events that have all three Levels can have a mixed
team of any level.

● ALTERNATE - only in team events, not in other


competition. A student entered as an alternate cannot be
entered as a competitor in any other event. Only the
alternate member listed on the entry form may be utilized
at any level of competition. A $15.00 alternate fee applies
and is due by January 10.
● ALTERNATES are now able to attend the event with their
team, but they do not have to.

● SUBSTITUTION - must register before January 10, $15.00

EVENT MANAGEMENT (Levels 2, 3+)

This event is career-focused and places the students in the


role of event planners/managers as they plan an event for a
client - an educational institution, community, or non-profit
organization. This is the first event to be scaffolded with
requirements that build upon each other, and has three
separate rubrics. This scaffolding or progression of skill will
soon (next year) be implemented in all appropriate events.
The attendance requirement has changed for this event to 50
(Level 2), and 75 people (Level 3)
FASHION CONSTRUCTION (LEVELS 1,2, 3)

● Participants prepare a display and


construct a garment using 8
Fashion Construction Techniques
for all levels. Level 1 does not
advance to Nationals
● In this event there is NO SEWING
AT REGION OR STATE!
● There is NO REQUIRED pattern
for this event
● Chapters with multiple entries
must submit different projects
INTERIOR DESIGN (Level 2, 3)
● Event description changed to reflect design of client needs,
rather than limiting to living spaces. This allows for scenario
development to include both residential and commercial
applications

MENU PLANNING & TABLE DISPLAY
(Level 1, 2, 3)
● Nutritional Analysis 0−7 Points
● Analysis is complete and is presented
in a consistent format (removed ‘meets
needs)
● Nutritional analysis of individual recipes
● Menu Card: no larger than 4”x6”
(mounting or frame may be larger). The
card must list the title of the display,
theme, and menu. The title can be the
selected theme or a creative name
incorporating the theme.

SALAD PREPARATION (Level 1, 2, 3)

socks.
REPURPOSE & REDESIGN (Level 1, 2, 3+)

● Team event
● Participants apply recycling and redesign skills learned in FCS
courses and create a display using a sample of their skills.
Participants select aused fashion, home, or other postconsumer
item to recycle into a new product. Participants will create a brand new
product, not simply embellish an old one. However, participants may
use additional materials if needed to redesign and creatively embellish
the new product. At the event site, participants set up their displays and
present the results of their projects to evaluators.
TEACH AND TRAIN

● Students do not need to be enrolled in a capstone


class
