• Appointed as the Secretary General last June 2018
• Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs and Trade, Brunei Darussalam since 2006.
• Served as Brunei Darussalam’s Senior Official for the
SEOM, APEC and the ASEM.
• June 2011-2017, he was the Chairman of the
Governing Board of the Economic Research Institute
for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA)
• He was awarded The Most Honourable Order of Seri
Paduka Mahkota Brunei, second Class (D.P.M.B) in
2007.
ASEAN Political-Security Community
Department
• The APSC shall aim to ensure that
countries in the region live at peace with
one another and with the world in a just,
democratic and harmonious environment.
ASEAN Economic Community
Department
• The AEC is the realization of the region’s
end goal of economic integration. It
envisions ASEAN as a single market and
product base, a highly competitive region,
with equitable economic development, and
fully integrated into the global economy.
ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community
Department
• The ASCC Council ensures that relevant
decisions of the ASEAN Summit pertaining
to the ASCC pillar are implemented. It
also serves to enhance coherence and
Cross Sectoral Initiatives consistency in ASCC policies and oversees
the implementation of the ASCC Blueprint.
• To implement The ASEAN Vision 2025,
other cross‐sectoral/pillar issues and its
coordination should also continuously be
enhanced and strengthened.

The prestigious regional award acknowledges outstanding
ASEAN citizens or ASEAN-based organizations who have
made exceptional contribution and shown exemplary work in
strengthening the ASEAN community building, promoting
regional integration, fostering inclusivity and raising ASEAN
awareness.
Activities
• ASEAN Fun Aerobic Dance Competition
Selecting of aerobic low-impact dance movement that incorporate
ASEAN cultural elements (music arrangement/moves) that is being
delivered in a cheerful and energetic manner within a 7-9 minutes
duration complemented by background music.

• Launched: Underwriters Laboratories-ASEAN-U.S. Science

Prize for Women 2021
This is the seventh annual scientific competition for women
sponsored by Underwriters Laboratories, one of the many U.S.
initiatives in support of ASEAN.

• ASEAN Competition Conference to be held in 2021

The 9th ASEAN Competition Conference (ACC) will be held from 1-
2 December in Hanoi, Viet Nam with the theme “Safeguarding
competition – A post pandemic response of ASEAN competition
authorities.”
