THE CELL CYCLE

2 MAJOR PHASES OF THE CELL

CYCLE
INTERPHASE MITOTIC
The cell grows and makes A process during which
a copy of its DNA duplicated chromosomes are
aligned, separated and moves
into new identical daughter
cells
INTERPHASE
G1 Phase
-the cell is quite active at the biochemical
level
S Phase S G2
- the cell synthesizes a complete copy of
the DNA in its nucleus
G2 Phase M
G1
-  the cell grows more, makes proteins and
organelles, and begins to reorganize its
contents in preparation for mitosis
4 STAGES OF MITOSIS

S G2 Prophase
Metaphase
G1 M Anaphase
Telophase
PROPHASE
-the process that separates the duplicated genetic material carried in the
nucleus of a parent cell into two identical daughter cells. During prophase, the
complex of DNA and proteins contained in the nucleus, known as chromatin,
condenses.
2. METAPHASE
- the nucleus dissolves and the cell's chromosomes condense and
move together, aligning in the center of the dividing cell.

3. ANAPHASE
- the process that separates the duplicated genetic material carried in
the nucleus of a parent cell into two identical daughter cells.

4. TELOPHASE
- The process that separates the duplicated genetic material carried
in the nucleus of a parent cell into two identical daughter cells.
