◼ It is an organization’s set of management tools,
principles and procedures aimed at protecting
human health and the environment from the potential
impacts of its activities, products and services.

◼ A successful EMS implementation may lead to ISO

14001 certification.

◼ The intention is to provide all industries, whether in

manufacturing or services, with a structure for an EMS
that will help ensure all operational processes
are consistent, effective, and will achieve the
stated environmental objectives of a given
organization

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT (EIA)

◼ a “process that involves predicting and evaluating

the likely impacts of a project (including cumulative
impacts) on the environment during construction,
commissioning, operation and abandonment.

◼ It includes designing appropriate preventive, mitigating

and enhancement measures addressing these
consequences to protect the environment and the
community’s welfare”.

PURPOSE OF THE EIA PROCESS

◼ Used to enhance planning and guide decision-making.

◼ To integrate environmental concerns in the planning process of projects at the feasibility stage.
◼ adverse environmental impacts of proposed actions are considerably reduced through a
reiterative review process of project setting, design and other alternatives, and the subsequent
formulation of environmental management and monitoring plans.
◼ A positive determination by the DENR-EMB results to the issuance of an Environmental
Compliance Commitment (ECC) document, to be conformed to by the Proponent and represents
the project’s Environmental Compliance Certificate.
◼ The release of the ECC allows the project to proceed to the next stage of project planning, which
is the acquisition of approvals from other government agencies and LGUs, after which the
project can start implementation.
a process for evaluating how likely it is
that the environment may be impacted
as a result of exposure to one or more
environmental stressors, such as
chemicals, disease, invasive species, and
climate change.
