BYSTANDER INTERVENTION
ON DATING VIOLENCE Heena Arora 2110120882
• Dating violence has only recently been identified as a significant public health issue, and there is
lack of awareness about this topic, the complexities of this phenomenon are still being unraveled.
How will we do it ?
Project method: We will do Random Sampling and roll out a questionnaire and will also do Focus
group discussions.
Project Aim: To know the bystander perception and behaviour in dating voilence of a lomg term
relationship
Project Outcome: This project need and result is to get a proper way to intervene as a bystander and
to make them understand who are in long term relationship voilence
LITERATURE REVIEW
Estimates suggest that between 10% and 25% of adolescents have experienced some of the physical
violence within dating relationships.(Storer et al., 2015)
One in four college-women experiences sexual violence on campus (Storer et al., 2015)
A study shows that Date SMART program was effective at reducing sexual DV involvement among
girls who had previously been exposed to physical DV themselves. The Date SMART group was
effective as reducing sexual Dating violence involvement across the 9 months follow-up period. Both
groups evidenced clinically meaningful reductions in physical, emotional, and digital DV involvement,
total time in dating relationships, as well as reductions in depression.(Rizzo et al., 2018).
LITERATURE REVIEW (CONT..)
A community-implemented program called Youth Relationship Project, which targets youth who had
previous exposure to child maltreatment, found significant reductions in teen DV perpetration (Wolfe,
et al., 2003)
Safe Dates to reduce psychological and physical DV perpetration and physical DV victimization
(Foshee et al., 2005).
The “Be More Than A Bystander” Campaign is a proactive one, which seeks to create a culture in our
society that intervenes on abusive attitudes and behavior directed towards women in their earliest
stages before they have had the chance to escalate along the continuum of violence (no date)

THE “RED FLAG” CAMPAIGN
This campaign, focuses on a "bystander
intervention" technique, urges friends and other
campus community members to "speak something"
when they notice warning indicators ("red flags") of
dating violence in a friend's relationship.
The only problem is that not everyone is aware of these socially tolerable limits, and not
everyone will become aware until the awareness is raised.
