Kinsman Redeemer
Family Redeemer

Kinsman redeemer was a

relative who volunteered to
take responsibility for the
extended family.
Ruth 3:1-9
3 One day Naomi said to Ruth, “My daughter, it’s time that I found a
permanent home for you, so that you will be provided for. 2 Boaz is a
close relative of ours, and he’s been very kind by letting you gather
grain with his young women. Tonight he will be winnowing barley at
the threshing floor.  3 Now do as I tell you—take a bath and put on
perfume and dress in your nicest clothes. Then go to the threshing
floor, but don’t let Boaz see you until he has finished eating and
drinking. 4 Be sure to notice where he lies down; then go and uncover
his feet and lie down there. He will tell you what to do.”
Ruth 3:1-9

“I will do everything you say,” Ruth replied. 6 So she went down to
the threshing floor that night and followed the instructions of her
mother-in-law.

After Boaz had finished eating and drinking and was in good spirits,
he lay down at the far end of the pile of grain and went to sleep. Then
Ruth came quietly, uncovered his feet, and lay down. 8 Around
midnight Boaz suddenly woke up and turned over. He was surprised
to find a woman lying at his feet! 9 “Who are you?” he asked.
“I am your servant Ruth,” she replied. “Spread the corner of your
covering over me, for you are my family redeemer.”
Ruth 3:1-9

Maya-maya'y nahiga
nito. 8 Nang maghahating-gabi'y nagising si Boaz. Nagulat siya nang
makitang may babaing nakahiga sa paanan niya. 9 “Sino ka?” tanong
niya.
“Isa kayong
kamag-anak na malapit kaya dapat ninyo akong kalingain at
pakasalan.”
The Israelite Law

When a woman’s husband died,

she could marry a brother of her
dead husband. This law described
“levirate marriage” and the
purpose of that marriage was to
carry on the dead man’s name

But Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back.
16

Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people
will be my people, and your God will be my God. 17 Wherever you
die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD punish me
severely if I allow anything but death to separate us!” 18 When Naomi
saw that Ruth was determined to go with her, she said nothing more.

Ruth 2:2-9
Ruth 2:2-9

And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, “Let me go to the fields and
pick up the leftover grain behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor.”
Naomi said to her, “Go ahead, my daughter.” 3 So she went out,
entered a field and began to glean behind the harvesters. As it turned
out, she was working in a field belonging to Boaz, who was from the
clan of Elimelek.

Just then Boaz arrived from Bethlehem and greeted the harvesters,
“The LORD be with you!”
“The LORD bless you!” they answered.
Ruth 2:2-9

Boaz asked the overseer of his harvesters, “Who does that young
woman belong to?”

The overseer replied, “She is the Moabite who came back from Moab
with Naomi. 7 She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather among the
sheaves behind the harvesters.’ She came into the field and has
remained here from morning till now, except for a short rest in the
shelter.”

So Boaz said to Ruth, “My daughter, listen to me. Don’t go and glean
in another field and don’t go away from here. Stay here with the
women who work for me. 9 Watch the field where the men are
harvesting, and follow along after the women. I have told the men not
to lay a hand on you. And whenever you are thirsty, go and get a drink
from the water jars the men have filled.”
Ruth 2:2-9

Conclusion
Ruth 4:14-17
14
The women said to Naomi: “Praise be to the LORD, who
this day has not left you without a guardian-redeemer. May he
become famous throughout Israel! 15 He will renew your life
and sustain you in your old age. For your daughter-in-law, who
loves you and who is better to you than seven sons, has given
him birth.”
16
Then Naomi took the child in her arms and cared for
him. 17 The women living there said, “Naomi has a son!” And
they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of
David.

inalagaang mabuti. 17 Siya'y tinawag nilang Obed. Ipinamalita nilang
