PREPARING TO CLEAN
In most properties, the room attendant’s workday begins in the
linen room. The linen room is often considered the headquarters
of the housekeeping department. It is here employee reports for
work; receives room assignments, rooms status reports, and
keys; and check out and the end of his/her shift. Also, the room
attendant prepares for the workday by assembling and
organizing the supplies that are necessary for cleaning.
ASSEMBLING SUPPLIES
A room attendant requires a special tool to do his/her job. For the
professional room attendant, these tools come in the form of the
various cleaning supplies and equipment, linens, room
accessories, and amenities that are necessary for preparing a
guest’s room.

For an effective job, hand caddy must well-organized and well-


stoked cart is a key to efficiency. It enables the room attendant
to avoid wasting time looking for a cleaning item or making
trips going back to the linen room for more supplies.

• Clean sheets, pillowcases, and mattress pads.

• Toilet and facial tissue, and trash bags

• Extra cups, dental glass, saucer….
• Vacuum , dust mop and other cleaning tools.
A laundry bag for dirty linens is usually found at one end of the
cart and a trash bag at the other. A broom and vacuum are also
positioned on either end of the cart for easy access. For safety
and security reasons, personal items and room keys should not
be stored on the cart.

SEQUENCE FOR GUESTROOM CLEANING
1. Enter the guestroom.
Before knocking 3 times and entering the guestroom check the room
status and observe whether the guest has placed a “DO NOT DISTURB”
sign on the door knob.
If confirmed NO GUEST INSIDE THE ROOM. Place your cart in front
of open door. Bring hand caddy and trash bags and place it near
bathroom door.
2. Open curtains, windows, lights and appliances inside the room.
3. Wash and wipe coffee cups, dental glass, drinking glass, and kettle.
4. In the bathroom/cr, spray with all-purpose cleaner to sink, wall,
faucet. Use toilet cleaner for toilet bowl. NOTE: SPRAY DIRECLTY TO
THE SURFACES. DON’T RINSE, Leave and proceed to the bedroom
area.
5. Strip the bed or remove dirty linens
First, remove all dirty linens from the bed and check for any
stains problems with the bedsheet, mattress, mattress pad, bed
skirt, pillow case.
6. Clean the trash
Pick up any trash left in the bathroom and bedroom area. Put
the trash and dirty linens in designated bags.
7. Get your new amenities and fresh linens for bathroom and
bedroom. Place it in a clean table or chair.
8. Check the mattress/bed.
9. Do the partial bed making, put the first sheet or the flat sheet.
10. Wipe and disinfect surfaces, and dust everything
Do this steps by following the counter clockwise direction.

NOTE: USE YELLOW CLOTH – furniture, fixtures,


appliances, sink, corner, wall, trash bin, bath tub, and drawer.
USE BLUE CLOTH – glass and mirror.
USE RED CLOTH – toilet bowl.
USE WHITE CLOTH – for drying drinking glass,
kettle, coffee cups, and trays.
11. BED MAKING
Start your bed making, do this for less than 4 minutes. Put new
a trash bag in the trash bin..
12. Dust the ceiling
By counter clockwise.
13. Bathroom/CR
Step 1. Sink area
-Use yellow cloth sprayed with all-purpose cleaner.
Step 2. Toilet bowl
-Use red cloth sprayed with toilet bowl cleaner.
Step 3. Wipe
Walls>shower head>faucet>and bath tub.
14. Set up and arrange new amenities and linens, like towels and bath mats.
15. FLOORING
For bedroom area use vacuum.
For bathroom/CR;
-Spray the floor with all-purpose cleaner.
-Dust the floor using dust mop.

16. Spray curtains with airfreshener


17. TURN OFF all lights, TV and other appliances, except
chiller/refrigerator.
NOTE: DON’T UNPLUG
18. MAKE THE FINAL CHECK OF THE OVERALL CONDITION OF
THE ROOM.
19. CLOSE THE DOOR and make in it sure it is locked.
20. Note room status on assignment sheet or worksheet and proceed to next
room.
