language that a speaker
uses to characterized by
the degree of formality.
TYPES OF SPEECH STYLES
1. FROZEN STYLE
⁕ is a formal style whose quality is
static, ritualistic, and may even be
archaic.
⁕ also known as fixed speech
e.g. pledges, contracts, will, prayers

2. FORMAL STYLE
⁕ uses formal words and expressions
whose aim is to inform and capture
audience
⁕ used when speaking to single hearers
like strangers, older persons,
professionals, etc.

3. CONSULTATIVE STYLE
⁕ this style is an unplanned speech that
is used semi-formal communication
which usually occurs when conversing
with strangers or persons who are
neither acquaintances nor friends or
relatives.

⁕Two (2) defining features of
Consultative Style:
1. the speaker supplies background
information.
2. the listener participates continuously.

4. CASUAL STYLE
⁕ the style is used in conversations
between friends and insiders who have
something to share and have shared
background information, often very
relaxed and focused on just getting
information out.

5. INTIMATE STYLE
⁕ this style is used in conversations
between people who are very close
and know each other quite well
because of having a maximum of
shared background information.
