• Luna received his early education at the Ateneo Municipal de


Manila where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree
• He also went to Escuela Nautica de Manila and became a
sailor
• He took drawing lessons from Lorenzo Guerrero, the
illustrious painting teacher of Ermita, Manila
• He also enrolled at the Academy of fine arts and was sent to
Madrid to pursue his career.

• Born on May 30, 1892, in the Paco district of manila
• He died due to a heart attack at the age of 79 on April
24, 1972
• Son of Pedro Amorsolo, a bookkeeper, and his wife

• He is best known for his craftsmanship and mastery

Educational background
• First National Artist in Painting (1972) of the
Philippines, and is also referred to as the “Grand Old
Man of Philippine Art”
• Amorsolo graduated from both Liceo de Manila Art
School in 1909 and the University of the Philippines
School of Fine Arts. He also graduated from U.P.
with honors in 1914 and received a study grant in
Madrid, Spain.
