Lipoprotein Group 5
Lipoprotein Group 5
PROTEIN
LIPOPROTEIN
Biochemical assembly that contains both
PROTEINS and LIPIDS, bound to the proteins,
which allow fats to move through the water inside
and outside cells.
It is the transportation and delivery of fatty acids,
triacylglycerol, and cholesterol to and from target
cells in many organs.
The proteins serve to emulsify the lipid molecules.
Many ENZYMES, TRANSPORTERS, structural
proteins , ANTIGENS, and TOXINS are
LIPOPROTEIN
GENERAL STRUCTURE OF
LIPOPROTEIN
Lipoproteins consist of non polar core and a single
surface layer of amphipathic lipids.
The NON POLAR LIPID consists of mainly
TRIACYLGLYCEROL and CHOLESTERYL ESTER and
is surrounded by a SINGLE LAYER of AMPHIPATIC
PHOSPOLIPID and CHOLESTEROL molecules.
These are oriented so that their polar groups face
outward to the aqueous medium.
The protein moiety of a lipoprotein is known as an
APOLIPOPROTEIN or APOPROTEIN
LIPOPROTEIN CAN BE
CLASSIFIED IN THREE WAYS:
BASED ON DENSITY – They are separated by
Ultracentrifugation. Depending upon the floatation constant,
the five major groups of lipoproteins have been identified that
are important physiologically and in clinical diagnosis.
