Estimation Lecture3

Reinforced Concrete Works

Reinforced cement concrete work is usually estimated, the quantity of steel being small no
deduction is made for steel from the volume of concrete.

Steel estimating

-End or side covers for steel bar may be taken as 4 to 5 cm (7 cm in case of soil adjacent
to the concrete)

-The bottom and top covers may be taken as 2 to 4 cm.

- Hook and bent up are taken inconsideration in estimation of steel bars.

- Two main types of steel bars:

-Straight bars (length from end to end).

-Bent up bars.

For 45° bent up bars, 0.84 d ( d = member depth minus top and bottom covers) of two
ends added for total length.
.
Example (R.C.C. Roof Slab)
Prepare a detailed estimate of a R.C.C. ( Reinforced Cement Concrete) roof slab of 3 m
clear span and 6 m long from the given below drawing.
