STRATEGIC PLANNING — A FRAMEWORK
FOR IT SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT
oCompanies develop and maintain IT systems to support their current and
future business operations.
oSome IT needs are immediate, such as fixing a logic problem in a payroll system.
o Other needs might be on the horizon, such as planning IT support for a new factory
IT team reviews each IT-related proposal, project, and systems request to
determine if it presents a strong business case, or justification.
The term business case refers to the reasons, or justification, for a proposal.
If you could look into the future, here is what you might see: new
industries, products, and services emerging from amazing advances in
information technology
customers who expect world-class IT support,
in Internet-based commerce, and a global business environment that
is dynamic and incredibly challenging.
To some firms, these changes will be threatening; other companies
will see opportunities and take advantage of them by creating and
following a strategic plan.
Technical Feasibility
◦ Technical feasibility refers to technical resources needed to develop,
purchase, install, or operate the system
