The machine shop is used to make custom items such as bolts, brackets, groove
plates for shielding wiring etc. The different types of machines in the shop are as
follows Lathe Machine - It is one of the oldest machine tools in the production
machine. This Machine is also known as the "mother of all machines " A lathe is
a machining tool that is used primarily for shaping metal or wood. It works by
rotating the workpiece around a stationary cutting tool. The main use is to
remove unwanted parts of the material, leaving behind a nicely shaped
workpiece.
 WHEEL SHOP :
In wheel shop there is the Maintainance and Allignment and other
operation done on a wheel.
Some of the operation in wheel shop are :
• Measurement of wheel gauge
• Measurement of wheel Diameter
• Inspection of wheel disc should be undertaken
• Inspection of Wheel Flanges
• Inspection of axle: Axle journals should be thoroughly cleaned
for inspection to detect flaws, pitting, ovality, taper, ridges etc.
 COACH UNDER GEAR
This shop undergoes Bogie and Air Brake Maintainance.

BOGIE:
Bogie is basically the separated part containing the wheel and
other similar components which are essential to run a coach.
When they are attached with the body, they are called the bogie.
There are different bogie according to type of coaches (LHB or
ICF).
ICF Bogie:
Some parts of bogie to maintain in ICF are : Trolley frame ,
centre pivot ,side bearing, brake cylinder, brake blocks, anchor
rods ,suspention system
 COACH COMPONENT REPAIR AND
TESTING

This section deals with repair and testing of coach components like
screw coupling, center buffer coupling, springs, etc. This section also
manufactures protection brackets which keep components in place if
mounting fails and hence protects train from derailment.
TENSILE TESTING OF COMPONENTS A tensile tester, also known
as a pull tester or universal testing machine (UTM), is an
electromechanical test system that applies a tensile (pull) force to a
material to determine the tensile strength and deformation behavior
until breaking or untilrequired region is reached on the stress vs strain
graph.
SPRING SECTION
This section overlooks inspection, testing and repair for various springs
used in the train. The spring after getting disassembled, goes top shot
blasting machine where its paint and minor imperfection gets removed.

Machine used in this section are :

• Neumatic power hammer
• Shot blasting machine
• Hydraulic press
• Table plasma cutter
• Press fit machine
 MILLWRIGHT SHOP

Millwright shop undertakes all the maintenance work in the workshop. In order to
maintain productivity, all the machinery needs to be regularly maintained.
Millwright shop also undertake all the beautification aspects of the workshop as
well.
This shop is divided into some parts:
• Compression section-Provides compressed air for manufacturing and machinery
cleaning, and other miscellaneous work.
• LISTER AND FORK SECTION - All the heavy lifting is done using forklift
and goods are transported using listers. A forklift is a powered industrial truck
need to lift and move materials over short distance and can lift thousands of
pounds. This section repairs and maintains the forklifts and listers.
ELECTRIC OVERHEAD TRAVELLING (ET) CRANE - EOT is one of the
common types of cranes, which consist of parallel runways with a travelling
bridge spanning the gap. There are 3 working movement of ET crane hook -
up and down lifting, trolley lateral movement and crane long travelling
longitudinal motion. The motor exhibits a driving force of the hoisting
mechanism, this transmits the power to high-speed shaft end.
