What is ct & image quality in CT…
2
What are the metrics advanced involved in
the software ?
They are three major metrics to evaluate the image quality assesement
4
“
The NPS is used to evaluate noise texture and
noise magnitude in the frequency domain and the
TTF to evaluate spatial resolution under
conditions of contrast and noise, close to the
lesions encountered in clinical practice.
5
Image reconstruction (IR) algorithm…
Image reconstruction techniques are used to create 2-D and 3-D images from sets
of 1-D projections. These reconstruction techniques form the basis for common
imaging modalities such as CT, MRI, and PET, and they are useful in medicine,
biology, earth science, archaeology, materials science, and nondestructive testing.

Introduction to software….
8
To analyze the images of a phantom on the list of phantoms in the
software, a configuration file for NPS and/or TTF must be created.
These configuration files are used to define the z-axis slices to be analyzed
and the positions of regions of interest (ROIs) (in pixels) for the calculation
of NPS and TTF.
These files are then used to calculate NPS and/or TTF for a series of images
or for several series of images of the same phantom with the same z-axis
positions, the same pixel/ matrix size and the same centering (“Batch on”
mode)

▪ The TTF is calculated from the
information recorded in the
configuration file: number of
slices, number of inserts and their
X- and Ypositions.

Advantages of this software
This article describes how the iQMetrix-CT software works and
how three advanced metrics are calculated.
15
The iQMetrix-CT software was also designed with an educational
purpose in mind to facilitate the appropriation of these metrics and the
understanding of how they work.
Future versions will no doubt improve the software in its use but also take
into account the technological evolutions of CT systems and the
development of new metrics.
