Traditional Dances
Traditional dancing is generally more of
a social activity rather than competitive.

Traditional dancing can be either


partnered or solo, and are mainly
danced in formation.
Folk Dance

Folk dance is a traditional, social


expression through movements with
rhythmic accompaniment that reflects
the life of the people of a certain
country or region.
Categories of fOLK Dance:
 Maria Clara Dance
 Cordillera Dance
 Muslim Dance
 Rural Dance
 Tribal Dance
Maria Clara Dance
- These dances is based on Maria
Clara itself in Dr. Jose Rizal’s Novel.
- These dances focuses about
courtship, love, flirtation, and also
known as Romantic dances.
Example of Maria Clara Dance

A - This dance literally means loving or

I - Originated in Panay Island,
Ñ introduced by the Spaniards.

- Fan or handkerchief plays an
S instrumental role in this dance.

Cordillera Dance
- These dances often make offerings to

- Focuses on Ritual dance like
weddings, wars, battles, harvest etc.
- Originated in Benguet Province.

- These dances are known for their
mysticism, royalty, and beauty.
- Accompanied by a gong and kulintang.
- Known for its hand and arm
movement along with shimmering
costumes.

- It is also known as Countryside dance.

Research about the other example of
folk dance under Maria Clara,
Cordillera, Muslim, Rural, and Tribal
dance category. Find at least two
example for each categories.
