complete sense, contains a main verb,
and begins with a capital letter.

CLAUSE: a combination of word


which consists of subject and verb

PHRASE: a combination of words


which doesn’t contain subject and
verb
BASIC TYPE OF CLAUSE

There are two basic types of clause:


• Dependent clause: can express a complete thought
(and can be a standalone sentence)

• Independent clause: a supporting part of a


sentence, and it cannot stand by itself as a
meaningful proposition (idea)
