 ONLINE GAMES AND ITS EFFECTS ON THE ACADEMIC
PERFORMANCE OF SELECTED GRADE 11 STUDENTS IN
QUEZON CITY HIGH SCHOOL

• What is the subject/ problem you want to address/ solve?

The problem I want to address or solve is the addiction of selected
grade 11 students in QCHS in online games and what is the impact of
this online game addiction in their academic performance.
Why do you choose this topic?
I chose this topic because it is related to my strand which is the ICT
and I also play online games and I have been addicted to it once and I
want to know if I don’t stop playing what will be the effect of this
addiction to my academic performance in school.
• Why do you think there is a need to conduct a research about
this topic?
The purpose of this study is to find out the implications of on-line
gaming to the academic performance and social behavior of the
students. The purpose of this study was to find out how online games
affect the students' intellectual capacity in relation to their academic
performance and social behavior.
• Is the topic/ issue timely?
Online game addiction is a global phenomenon and appears to lead
to poorer grades in school and serious psychological problems,
including depression, anxiety, and social phobia, said an international
team of researchers who followed over 3,000 third through eighth grade
students in Singapore and found the percentage of pathological youth
gamers there to be similar to other countries.
• Who will benefit from this study?
We will all benefit from this study we will know what percentage of
the students are addicted to online games in grade 11 in QCHS and we
will prevent them and encourage them to focus in their studies.
• Choosing this topic as the subject of your study, what do you think
will be your greatest contribution to the society?
I think the greatest contribution of my study is we will know what is
the reason why there is so many addict in online games we will find out
what is the percentage of addict in online games and we will encourage
them to fight this addiction and focus to their studies more.
