Agatha Christie
CHRISTIES EARLY YEARS Agatha
Miller was born on September 15, 1890 in
Torquay, Devon, in the South West England
to the family of well to do American
migrants Frederick Alvah Miller and Clara
Boehmer. She was the third child in the
family.
Initially, Agatha Mary Clarissa Mallowan, nee(born)
Miller, was going to be published under the
pseudonym Martin West or Martin Gray,
believing that the female name of the author of
the detective story might cause readers some
prejudice, later she decided to leave the real name
and surname of her first husband – Christie.
She wrote a detective story, an adventure
novel, a spy novel. Her books have been
published in over 2 billion copies and
translated into 103 languages of the world.
Agatha Christie has become one of the
symbols of Great Britain, her masterpieces
are the most published after the Bible and the
works of Shakespeare.
