FISRT AID

 is the emergency or immediate care that is provided when

a person is injured or ill until full medical treatment is
available.
 NB if your are a FIRST AIDER are to have parts or a first
aid kit present with you at all times.
FIRST AID KIT
 A First Aid Kit contain the following :

 plasters in a variety of different sizes and shapes

 small, medium and large sterile gauze dressings
 at least 2 sterile eye dressings
 triangular bandages
 crêpe rolled bandages
 safety pins
 disposable sterile gloves
 tweezers
 scissors
 alcohol-free cleansing wipes
 sticky tape
 thermometer (preferably digital)
 skin rash cream (such as hydrocortisone or calendula)
 cream or spray to relieve insect bites and stings
 antiseptic cream
 Painkillers( such as paracetamol or infant paracetamol for
children), aspirin (not to be given to children under 16), or
ibuprofen
Administering First Aid

 When administering First Aid in a particular situation

there are steps followed to ensure your (First Aider) safety.
 For example :
 You walked into a factory and saw a work laying on the floor.

 You are NOT to rush to the scene

 As First Aiders we use the ‘CHECK-CALL-CARE’ method

 Step 1: You observe the/your surroundings your five (5) senses.

 Step 2 : Once you ensure the scene is ‘danger-free’ you call out to the
person ( hello sir? Are hurt? Where does it hurt? )
 Step 3: If there isn’t any response you then proceed to call 911. If
however there is a response you ask questions (what's your name?, what
happen? And please remain calm) then you proceed to call 911.
 Step 4: You explain everything to the 911 operator then you inform the
operator that you are a First Aider and your going to administer care.
 Step 5: if the person didn’t respond when you call out to him or her you
proceed to use the ‘shout-tap-shout’ method if still no response you
check to see if the person is breathing . After doing this you then do a
whole head to toe check looking for anything that is broken or cut. If
something is broken (arm or leg) you then do a splint.
 Step 6 you then place the person in recovery position.
 If its case were you saw what happen to the person

 Still do not rush to the scene. But since you saw what happen to the person you
will have a general idea has to how to proceed in caring for the person.
 Step 1: you observe your surroundings. Once it’s safe you call out to your friend
or the person
 Step 2: you then call 911 and administer help. When there is bleeding the first
task is to stop the bleeding immediately ( get a clean piece of clothing fold in
two and bend it four (4) times.
 Step 3 you apply pressure to the wound until the ME get there.
Falls

 When someone falls from certain height .

 First thing you do is observe your surroundings.

 NB do not attempt to move the person unless they are in immediate danger.
 Secondly you question the person ( where does it hurt? how bad is the pain?).
Then you call 911.
Electrocution
 If someone is electrocuted first aider remember not to touch the person

 If there is any signs of surface or internal burn the best way to help that person is to cut of
the source of the power.
 Even if the power isn’t cut off you remove the person using a NON CONDUCTIVE
MATERIAL.
